A South Fulton woman who is facing criminal charges after she allegedly shot two women last week was only defending herself, her boyfriend said.
Starrett Boynton told Channel 2 Action News that his girlfriend, Ashanti Dorsey, fought back June 4 when the women broke into their Kimberly Mill Road home. The same women attacked Dorsey, 21, earlier that day, he said.
The women, who have not been identified, were shot and are now recovering. Boynton said they live next door to him and Dorsey.

“She is locked up trying to defend herself,” Boynton told Channel 2.
He said they were asleep in their bedroom late in the afternoon.
“I woke up to her screaming, ‘They in the house! They in the house,’ Boynton said. “So, when I got up, the lady and her daughter was in the house, in the room.”
The women allegedly beat Dorsey with a stick in the attack. Boynton told the news station that Dorsey made it to her firearm and shot in “straight self-defense.”
He said earlier that day, the same two women were part of a larger group who fought Dorsey in their front yard in the 6800 block of Kimberly Mill Road. Boynton has cellphone video he said shows seven or eight women ganging up to attack Dorsey.
He doesn’t know how the two women got in their home to continue the fight, he told the news station.
Boynton said despite his and Dorsey’s accounts of what happened, Dorsey was still arrested.
A city spokeswoman said Boynton was uncooperative and refused to speak to police.
“Contact with 911 was never made and the offender, Ashanti Dorsey, fled the scene,” South Fulton spokeswoman Ashley Minter-Osanyinbi told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a statement. “Police were only able to get the victim’s side of the incident.”
Dorsey is being held in the Fulton County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
“I think if you aren’t safe at home,” Boynton said, “where can you really be safe at?”
