July 5, 2022 Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport: Airline travelers on the North Domestic Terminal made their way through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport at the domestic terminal on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 after managing through a busy Fourth of July weekend for air travel with storms and cancellations, airlines face the challenge of navigating through the rest of a busy summer. Pilot unions, travelers and Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines had raised concerns about staffing issues and flight disruptions over the holiday weekend. Delta ended up canceling dozens of flights a day throughout the weekend, as did other major carriers as thunderstorms hit Georgia and the East coast. But the Independence Day weekend flight cancellations weren’t as severe as during Memorial Day weekend and some other nightmare travel days so far this summer. On Friday, the busiest day of the holiday weekend, Delta canceled 117 flights, or 3.9% of scheduled flights according to FlightAware.com. On Saturday, it canceled 81 flights, followed by 54 cancellations on Sunday and 41 cancellations on Monday. Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines and Delta have had the worst cancellation rates in the U.S. airline industry in recent weeks, according to FlightAware.com data. Travel crowds expected on roads, in skies for Fourth of July holiday
April 27, 2021 Hartsfield-Jackson Airport: Delta Air Lines has turned a corner as it starts filling middle seats again May 1, 2021 and looks for a travel rebound this summer. Average airfares hit a 25-year low in 2020 as the number of travelers on U.S. airlines dropped dramatically because of the pandemic, according to a federal report. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport also had ranking changes in 2020. Guangzhou Bai Yun International Airport unseated the Atlanta airport for the first time in more than two decades, according to Airports Council International's preliminary world airport traffic rankings. Seven of the 10 busiest airports in the world in the pandemic year of 2020 were in China. However, Hartsfield-Jackson was the busiest  airport measured by flight counts in 2020, taking that title back from Chicago O'Hare. (John Spink / John.Spink@ajc.com)
