The Pitts Road bridge over Ga. 400 closed Monday morning and will remain closed for one year as crews work to replace it with a taller, wider structure to accommodate future express lanes.

It’s part of the first phase of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s effort to build toll lanes along a 16-mile stretch of Ga. 400, expected to be completed in 2025. Two other bridges, Roberts Drive and Kimball Bridge Road, will also be replaced. And multiuse paths will be incorporated into the new bridges.

During the Pitts Road bridge closure, a detour will funnel drivers onto Roswell Road and Roberts Drive to cross over Ga. 400 at Northridge Road. The Kimball Bridge Road overpass closed on May 8.
