Lufthansa Airlines is throwing a three-day sale that significantly lowers the cost of travel to destinations across Europe (and more) for spring travel.

If you haven't inquired into airfare costs to Europe lately, these deals might seem shockingly high. However, this sale does represent the best values to cross the pond for the upcoming spring/shoulder season. Take advantage of this sale to save an average of $450 per round-trip ticket.

So in order to spend less, don't be dead set on a destination. Instead, travel to where you can get the most for your buck. Here are some examples of round-trip rates:

  • $786.80 Lisbon, Portugal
  • $838.90 Bucharest, Romania
  • $841 Budapest, Hungary
  • $847.60 Frankfurt, Germany
  • $890 Vienna, Austria
  • $1009.20 Cairo, Egypt

To qualify, give at least a two-week advance notice of travel. Weekend travel is $35 higher, each way. Plan to stay at least one Saturday night and return within 30 days of departure.

Buy tickets by midnight, Thursday (3/15).

Lufthansa serves Frankfurt with nonstop service. All other destinations require a stop and change of aircraft in Frankfurt. Stopovers are not permitted.

Sale airfares are always subject to change. Every seat on every flight is not offered at the lowest rate. Since only a limited supply of seats is available, act quickly to make your purchase.

I recommend starting the search for available seats at Kayak.com vs. calling an airline directly. You can also search for the sale at travel Web sites such as Expedia or Travelocity, etc.
