There's great news concerning a tried-and-true travel web site and some new and useful trip planning sites.
First, Expedia.com, one of the world's biggie web travel agencies, has pulled out in front from the competition by dropping its phone-based booking fees for customers wishing to make flight, hotel, cruise and rental car reservations at 1-800-EXPEDIA. Earlier this year Expedia eliminated booking fees for online air reservations and dropped its fees to change or cancel hotel and rental car reservations. Cruise change and cancel fees were also eliminated in May 2009 and cruise booking fees were eliminated in October 2009. http://www.expedia.com
Check out the simple-to-use HotelsCombined.com, a collection of 900,000 real-time hotel deals from more than 200,000 hotels ranging from small independent properties to large scale hotel chains. Bookings are made directly through partners such as Expedia.com, Hotels.com; Booking.com; Travelocity.com; InterContinental, com; Hilton.com; BestWestern.com; Marriott.com and soon many more hotel brands.
The Home page of HotelsCombined.com seems too simple to deliver such vast results in seconds. Results include final price per night including taxes and fees, distance to city center, star ratings based on consumer reviews, photos, detailed property descriptions and more. Also, the results can be sorted into any of these categories.
Thanks to HotelsCombined.com, my search for the perfect London hotel for an upcoming trip resulted in displaying 1,289 properties. But with a few nips and tucks of my personal preferences, the list slowly compacts but still loaded with deals.

One more fun and handy travel web site that I found while planning my trip to London is called Duffel. The site helps to consolidate and organize all of those little tips, ideas and articles you run across on the web. No more clipping, dragging and printing out multiple pages to sort through!
Add Duffel as a Bookmark/Favorites and then start collecting those trip ideas (hotels, maps, restaurants, tours, web addresses, car rental info, photos, etc.) by highlighting the info with your mouse and then clicking onto the Duffel Bookmark/Favorites tab. The data is then tacked up onto a virtual corkboard at Duffel. You're then quickly returned to the original page you were viewing. Once you are ready to travel, go to Duffel and organize those notes and ideas into a personalized day-to-day itinerary to print and take along. You can make each of your travel destinations private or create one to share with the public or with friends, families, colleagues. Just go have a look and you'll be hooked too. http://duffelup.com
