Yesterday's big travel deal was a cheapo airfare offer to New York City for travel this weekend.

But there's even better news today on how you can make a trip to Manhattan downright affordable.

If you've never been before, here's a great chance to experience one of the world's great cities.

First, the airfare deal.

It comes from AirTran (and will probably be matched by Delta before the day is out) and it's a one-way rate of $59, or $69.60 with all extras. It's valid only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays through Nov. 18. However, AirTran's currently running a systemwide sale with one-way rates on other days (except Sundays) from $104. You have until June 30 to buy the more expensive rates, but only through midnight, Friday (6/20) to buy the $59 deals.

Both rates require travelers to give at least a ten-day advance notice of dates.

Imagine staying in a brand spanking new hotel in the heart of Times Square for just $115 a night, single or double occupancy! This shocking deal is offered at the new Four Points by Sheraton Midtown-Times Square - on stays any day of the week through Sept. 12 — even over weekends.

Sleek guestrooms at the new hotel are tiny (the hotel's web site describes them as "uncluttered") at just a couple of hundred square feet. But expect a great sleep on Sheraton Four Comfort signature beds, free bottled water and free wifi access.

The Times Square area is the heartbeat of the city with Broadway and off Broadway theater, popular restaurants and galleries.

It's also where auto traffic between 42nd and 47th Streets has recently been blocked - turning the streets into a pedestrian-only area. This is the place to people watch and take a break from the city's non-stop action. The visitor-friendly experimental project is set to run through the end of the year.

There's also another new auto-free zone from 33rd to 35th streets on Broadway at Herald Square, near Macy's.

And, do one more thing on your visit to NYC. Ride the Staten Island Ferry between Battery Park - at the southern tip of Manhattan - over to Staten Island. The commuter ferry isn't posh, but the views of Lower Manhattan, New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are gorgeous.

The 5-mile, 25-minute ferry ride is free. http://www.siferry.com

If you're real adventurous, try your luck at getting a ticket into the Statue of Liberty's crown. Visitors that are willing to climb 12-story-high stairway to her crown will be rewarded with possibly the finest views.

The crown had been closed to visitors since 9/11/01 and will reopen this summer - appropriately - on the 4th of July.
