After spending more than a year effectively grounded at home by the coronavirus pandemic, 75 percent of Americans say they are ready to travel more and make up for the lost time. What’s more, 83 percent of those surveyed were in search of easy, spontaneous vacations. These two Georgia cities fit the quick getaway bill, according to Hotwire.
The travel website recently listed the 40 best cities for a quick trip in its third annual, “America’s best cities for a quickie,” index. Two Georgia cities not only made the list, but ranked highest in their category: Atlanta, for mid-sized cities and Savannah, among “itty bitty,” cities. New York City ranked tops among large cities, and Orlando, Fla. tops among small cities.
Hotwire comprised the list by examining 350 U.S. cities for their value, leisure and driveability.
For value, the site looked at Hotwire’s booking demand and last-minute savings for 4- and 5-star hotels, and average daily lodging rates. For leisure, it considered destinations that offer a wide variety of entertainment options such as restaurants, sites and attractions as well as the least amount of rainy days per year. For drivability, the site took into account the shortest drive time for the most people.
“Not only are last-minute ‘quickie’ trips of 2-3 nights less stressful to plan, but they allow for more at every turn — more frequent trips, more spontaneity, more savings when booking last minute with Hotwire, and more money saved to splurge on fancy experiences,” wrote Hotwire.
