FOX 26 is reporting that Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted for reckless or negligent injury to a child. According to the Houston Chronicle, Montgomery County Sheriff Tommy Gage released a statement saying a warrant has been issued for Peterson. The statement also says that the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office will not be discussing details in the case.

Peterson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin declined to comment.

Multiple media sources are reporting that the charges stem from Peterson disciplining his child with a switch.

Peterson has played for the Vikings for his entire eight-year career.

ESPN reports that last October, Peterson's 2-year-old son died in South Dakota after being assaulted by a man dating the boy's mother. Joseph Robert Patterson was charged with murder and manslaughter in that case.

The news comes after a week in which the Ray Rice domestic violence case has put the NFL on the defensive in the face of harsh public criticism.
