Longtime Falcons scout Mark Olson was promoted to serve as national scout for the Falcons, the team announced today.
“Mark is an integral member of the leadership of our scouting department,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. “His tireless work ethic and passion for his job is admirable. We are pleased that Mark will continue to be a vital part of our personnel department in his expanded role as our national scout.”
Olson, who joined the Falcons in 1998 as a scouting assistant, served as the Western Regional scout for the past three seasons and also scouted the West for the five previous seasons. He moves into the position that was vacated with Marvin Allen’s move to the Kansas City to serve as their director of college scouting.
The Falcons have heavily drafted players from the West over the past five drafts including left tackle Sam Baker (USC), defensive end Kroy Biermann (Montana), Pro Bowl free safety Thomas DeCoud and tight end Levine Toilolo (Stanford).
Olson has also worked with the Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings and Montreal of the CFL.
