Dogs rout Ohio St. in regional

Matt Cerione and Joey Lewis homered in Georgia's eight-run first inning, and the Bulldogs used seven home runs to cruise past Ohio State 24-8 on Friday in the Tallahassee Regional of the NCAA baseball tournament.

Rich Poythress hit three homers, while Cerione and Lewis each homered twice as Georgia (38-22) withstood a five-hour weather delay before setting season highs for runs and hits. The Bulldogs' seven home runs set a school single-season record of 105.

The Bulldogs (38-22) battered Big Ten co-pitcher of the year Alex Wimmers (9-2) for 10 runs in four innings.

Georgia, will face the winner of the Florida State-Marist game from late Friday at 4 p.m. today.

Poythress also doubled and tied his career high with four hits and drove in seven runs to set a new single-season school record with 84 RBI, breaking the previous mark of 77 set by Gordon Beckham last year.

Cerione had a career-high five hits and five RBI, Joey Lewis had four hits and Colby May had three hits for Georgia. Michael Demperio and Zach Cone added two hits.

Justin Grimm (4-4) earned his second win in as many starts.
