Whitehead to report for start of Tech camp

July 30, 2014

Georgia Tech signee Kenderius Whitehead will report to the team hotel for preseason training Wednesday, according to a message from his Twitter account.

After leaving N.C. State following his freshman season, Whitehead played last year at Georgia Military College and then fast-tracked his degree work in order to earn his associates degree by the end of the summer and gain eligibility for this coming season.

“He’s put in a ton of work, a ton of effort,” GMC coach Bert Williams said Wednesday. “I’m glad he’s getting home and I’m glad he’s got a place to be in school, practicing and having a chance to play in the ACC. I wish the best for him.”

Whitehead’s arrival is especially good news for Tech. The Jackets are ending an offseason in which a number of players left the team by transfer, dismissal and academic ineligibility. Whitehead, from Martin Luther King High and Milledgeville, will compete for playing time at defensive end. A year ago, he was a junior college All-American, leading GMC to the junior college national championship game with 36 tackles, 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
