Two changes to Tech roster for spring practice

April 2, 2016

Georgia Tech is without two players who were expected to be on the roster for spring practice, defensive end Antonio Simmons and safety John Marvin.

Marvin no longer is with the team after breaking team rules. Simmons is not in school for the semester, but is expected to return.

“He’ll be eligible,” coach Paul Johnson said of Simmons. “He’ll be fine when he comes back to school. He’s just out a semester.”

Johnson did not elaborate further on either matter. Simmons started three games last season at defensive end and had 13 tackles, including three for loss.

Marvin played sparingly last season as a sophomore, appearing in seven games. He is finishing out the semester at Tech. Reached Saturday, Marvin declined to comment on the dismissal, but said was working out with the team before spring practice and had been meeting with Johnson about moving on from Tech.

“I enjoyed my team with the football team,” Marvin said. “I thank the coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to play football at Georgia Tech.”
