High marks for Tech athletes in classroom

May 20, 2016

More than half of the Georgia Tech football team earned a 3.0 or higher in the spring semester, part of an overall successful semester for the whole of the Tech athletic program.

More than 60 percent of the 363 athletes earned a 3.0 or higher, and their mean GPA was a 3.0. The football team earned its highest-ever GPA, as 46 of 91 team members had a 3.0 or higher. The softball team had the highest GPA of any team on campus with a 3.30, followed by golf at 3.28 and women’s swimming and diving at 3.27.

It follows the NCAA report in April that 12 of the 15 varsity teams earned APR scores that were the same or better than their scores from last year. Four of the school’s teams, football, golf, men’s swimming and diving and volleyball, received recognition for having APR scores in the top 10 percent of their respective sports.
