Red Sox 5, Braves 2
How the game was won: Shelby Miller breezed through the first nine batters he faced, but he struggled getting by Boston's lineup a second and third time. The Red Sox scored four runs on seven hits after the third and chased Miller from the game before he got out of the sixth. All three runs scored in the sixth were unearned, however, because Juan Uribe dropped a pop fly in foul territory earlier that inning.
The Braves scored two unearned runs in the sixth when Clay Buccholz threw the ball over David Ortiz’s head on a bases-loaded grounder off the bat of A.J. Pierzynski.
Number: 6. The number of hits the Braves recorded tonight. They'd averaged nearly 11 hits in the last 10 games.
What's next: Atlanta hosts the New York Mets in the first of a three-game series. The Braves trail the Mets by 3 1/2 games for first place in the National League East. Jacob deGrom (7-4, 2.33 ERA) will start for the Mets. The Braves haven't yet announced their starting pitcher, but they'll likely call up Matt Wisler for the job.
