How the game was won: The Phillies scored four runs in the first inning, including Ryan Howard's three-run double, and cruised to a 9-3 win against the skidding Braves at Citizens Bank Park. Braves rookie Williams Perez (4-1) returned from the disabled list and struggled from the outset, giving up three runs before recording an out and allowing nine runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings, including four runs in the first inning and five runs in the fifth. Freddie Freeman's two-run homer, the 100th of his career, was the only offensive highlight for the Braves, who trailed 9-0 after six innings.

Number: 1-12. Braves' record in their past 13 road games, including 1-7 on the current 10-game trip.

What's next: The Braves and Phillies play the third game of their four-game series Saturday at 7:05 p.m., when rookie Matt Wisler (5-1, 3.43 ERA) faces Philly right-hander Aaron Nola (1-1, 3.29).
