Braves catcher Evan Gattis will miss his eighth consecutive game tonight because of illness and manager Fredi Gonzalez said he’s not sure when he will return to the lineup.

“I really don’t know,” Gonzalez said before the Braves faced the Nationals at Turner Field on Tuesday. “We will let the doctors and people who are looking at him decide when, where. But hopefully (it’s) soon.”

Gattis started to feel ill on Sept. 7 while catching the series finale at Miami and the Braves said he was diagnosed with strep throat. The Braves reported Gattis was feeling better last Wednesday and over the weekend but he ended up missing the series at Washington and Texas.

Gattis visited with doctors in Texas before seeing Braves team physicians when the team returned to Atlanta.

Gattis leads Braves regulars with a .507 slugging percentage. He missed 17 games spanning June and July because of a bulging thoracic disk in his back.
