Atlanta United is getting healthier, but still will be thin in the central midfield for Wednesday’s MLS game against Cincinnati at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Santiago Sosa will miss the game because of yellow-card accumulation. Franco Ibarra participated in his first full training session Tuesday, but manager Gonzalo Pineda said that he needs more sessions before he will play. Amar Sejdic is out with an injury. That leaves Mo Adams as the only true defensive midfielder. Pineda said that the team has other options.

Centerback Anton Walkes suffered a mild hamstring strain in Friday’s win against Orlando but was seen running around the training pitch Tuesday. Pineda didn’t seem concerned about Walkes’ status.

Pineda said that centerback Miles Robinson and striker Josef Martinez seem well after returning from national-team games with the U.S. and Venezuela, respectively. Neither played against Orlando. Pineda implied that Martinez will start against Cincinnati.

The team does not yet know when Ronald Hernandez will return from Paraguay, where he is quarantining after testing positive for COVID-19 while with Venezuela for its World Cup qualifying game. Hernandez is vaccinated.

Atlanta United is one point below the playoff line, with two home games this week. It will host D.C. United, one of the teams it is one point behind, Saturday.
