Atlanta United fullback Greg Garza is in the starting 11 for the U.S. men’s national team for Sunday’s friendly against Serbia in San Diego. It is the first start for the U.S. men’s national team by an Atlanta United player.

There are several players competing at left back, including Demarcus Beasley.

This will be Garza’s 10th appearance for the U.S. and the first since 2015. He has been battling hip injuries for the past two season.

Atlanta United and Tijuana finalized a loan for Garza with an option to buy in December. Among the reasons Garza agreed to the transfer was to improve his chances of playing again for the U.S. men’s national team. Its next game will be against Jamaica, which includes Atlanta United’s Romario Williams, on Chattanooga on Friday.

Lawrenceville’s Walker Zimmerman is among the substitutes that manager Bruce Arena can use on Sunday.

Atlanta United is training in Bradenton, Fla. ahead of its inaugural season.
