Pork products recalled for possible listeria contamination

Listeria – What You Need to Know Right Now

Check your fridge and freezer for Alexander & Hornung ham and pepperoni products. The Michigan-based company is voluntarily recalling 234,391 pounds of 17 processed meat products due to possible exposure to Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall was announced on Sunday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. No illnesses have been reported so far, according to the company.

“While there have been no illnesses or complaints associated with the products and there is no conclusive evidence that the products were contaminated at the time of shipment, the voluntary recall is being initiated out of an abundance of caution,” Alexander & Hornung said on its website.

The affected products were produced on various dates and have the establishment number “EST. M10125″ inside the USDA mark of inspection. Here’s the full list of labels and a complete list of products.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and should either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

Listeria-contaminated food is most likely to sicken pregnant women, children, adults aged 65 or older and those with weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
