Halloween is just a week away, and some of you might not have had time to put together a costume. That’s OK.
You likely have all the makings of a cool costume already, with scrubs and some items at your home.
Here are five ideas for those who don’t have a lot of time (or sewing ability).
Superhero
Let’s start with the obvious. Although you wear your alter ego’s persona every day, you can finally jump in the phone booth — or supply closet — and change into your superhero outfit. If you don’t already own a superhero T-shirt, just wear a set of scrubs you like. Pull on contrasting shorts, think Superman or Aquaman, and find a large towel or old sheet that either be pinned to your shoulder or tied around your neck.
Hand sanitizer
A hero of the pandemic, a hand sanitizer outfit doesn’t require much effort. Wear a pair of light blue or green scrubs. On a piece of paper, write the name of your antibacterial brand — Purell, Germ-X or just “hand sanitizer” — and pin it to the front of your scrubs. For a little extra, remove the pump from any large bottle you have. After removing the tube, glue the pump to a headband or hair pins and top off your costume.
Energizer Bunny
Grab those Easter bunny ears you wear every year and your pink scrubs, and your costume is nearly complete. You can either make an Energizer sign, much like in the hand sanitizer costume, or cut the top off a pack of batteries and attach that to the front of your scrubs. A small toy drum would complete the look, but it might get in the way throughout the day.

Pepto Bismol
We’re not done with those pink scrubs yet. Add a pair of yellow socks and make a yellow “cap,” and you’re now the iconic Pepto Bismol bottle. If you don’t think will get it, write “Pepto” on paper in yellow highlighter or marker, and pin it to the front of your scrubs.
Fruit
This might be the easiest of all. Red scrubs are strawberries or cherries. Blue scrubs are blueberries. Yellow scrubs are a banana or lemons. To really sell it, make leaves and stems from paper or felt and glue them to a headband. Or, if you’re wearing yellow, stick a straw in your messy bun and go as lemonaide. Get it? A lemon and you give aide. They’ll love it.
And don’t forget to have some candy in your pockets for patients who can enjoy it.
