Those who live in Gwinnett know there is plenty to do up here. But did you know a lot of it is free?
Whether you prefer to hang out with friends, family or both, here are five fun and free June activities you might want to put on your calendar.
Beats on the Streets
Dinner on the Downtown Lawrenceville Square comes with free entertainment each Thursday through July with Beats on the Streets.
Many restaurants will have specials; enjoy dancing on the patios; get to know your community; and check out unique mix of art. From 5-10 p.m., some of the best DJs in the region, along with multiple mediums of art and performances, will make your evening worth the drive.
On the third Thursday of each month (June 15 this month), businesses will stay open late with a special sidewalk sale. Art vendors will pop up throughout the square leading the community to an Honest Alley Exchange Artisan Market, curated by The Bridges Arts Center.
Duluth Rotary Car Show
If you didn’t make it to Rick Ross’ car show, the Duluth Rotary Car Show returns to Downtown Duluth from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 in the Main Street parking lot, 3167 Main St.
Free to the public, you can check out exotic cars, antique classics, foreign sports cars, hot rods, muscles and more. This event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Duluth.
Juneteenth celebrations
The city of Norcross — along with the Gwinnett NAACP, RevUp and OneDayOnTheNawf — invites you to celebrate Juneteenth noon-5 p.m. Saturday, June 17 at Thrasher Park. 93 Park Drive, Norcross 30071. There will be live music, food, vendors and activities for all ages.
Thrasher isn’t the only park having a Juneteenth celebration. The United Ebony Society will host a fun-filled day of food, games and music from noon to 6 p.m. at Rhodes Jordan Park, 100 East Crogan Street, Lawrenceville 30046
Sugar Hill City Hall will host food trucks, a wings cookoff, DJs and family fun 4-9 p.m. that Saturday at 5039 West Broad St., Sugar Hill 30518.
Lilburn Food Truck Tuesday
The second Tuesday of each month through October is Food Truck Tuesday. This month, that’s June 13. Although the picnic dinners from the many food trucks will cost you, the live entertainment at the bandstand is free. The bandstand is immediately behind the Municipal Complex.
Food Truck Tuesdays run 6-9 p.m. at Lilburn City Park, 76 Main St. 30047.
Independence Celebration
Why wait until July Fourth for fireworks? Head over to West Walton Park from 6-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, and get an early start on celebrating our country’s birthday with the city of Loganville’s annual Independence Celebration. There will be games and activities for the kids, food vendors on site, and a DJ providing music until SkynFolks — a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band — takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. The fireworks follow the concert.
Limited handicapped parking will be available at the Loganville Police Department. All others can park either at First Baptist Church of Loganville and walk over or use the shuttle that will run from the Meridian Community Center.
