When police in Australia asked a woman whom they arrested Sunday night if she had anything to declare, her answer took them by surprise.

The 50-year-old woman said she had a baby koala in her bag, according to The Associated Press. Authorities opened the canvas bag and discovered a male koala. The woman told police that she found the koala Saturday night.

The koala was taken to the RSPCA, where it was found to be slightly dehydrated but otherwise in good health. The young koala, whom staff have named Alfred, is receiving fluids and will “shortly be going out to a carer," RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said.
