North Georgia will swing from bitter winter to mild spring in a matter of eight hours Wednesday, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Temperatures are starting the day in the 20s and 30s across the region, but they are forecast to rise to the low 60s later this afternoon. Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said Atlanta will see a 30-degree jump.
“After we get past this cold start this morning, a nice finish later today,” he said. “Just a few more hours of this really cold stuff across North Georgia.”
A projected high of 60 degrees in Atlanta is more like early springtime than early December, he said. While a heavy coat is warranted Wednesday morning, sunglasses should be all that’s needed in the afternoon.
“Today is going to be dry and sunny, tomorrow is dry and sunny, Friday is going to be dry and sunny, too,” Monahan said. “Really nice weather all the way through the end of the week.”
The next chance of rain arrives Saturday night as a cold front approaches Georgia, according to Channel 2. Monahan said scattered showers are 30% likely late Saturday and 60% likely on Sunday, but it will stay warm with afternoon highs in the 60s.
“The weekend will start dry, and we’ll finish it with some showers across North Georgia,” he said. “As the day goes on Sunday, we’ll watch a system developing to our west as some colder air moves in. We’ll keep a close eye on that into early next week.”
Channel 2 meteorologists said it is too early to say if that system will bring any winter weather to North Georgia.

Traffic is moving smoothly on metro Atlanta interstates except for two slow zones in the northern suburbs, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
A crash on I-85 South was blocking two left lanes south of Indian Trail, the Traffic Center reported just before 8:30 am. As a result, traffic is slow leaving Ga. 316.
The Traffic Center suggests drivers take Buford Highway until the interstate delays clear.
There is another slow zone on I-285 West in Sandy Springs after an earlier crash was moved to the right at Ga. 400. Delays remain back to I-85, according to the Traffic Center.
In DeKalb County, an ongoing SWAT situation is blocking Lavista Road in the Toco Hill area. The road is blocked near Biltmore Drive between Briarcliff and North Druid Hills roads while authorities are on scene.
The Traffic Center suggests drivers take North Druid Hills or Clifton roads to get around the closure.
And in Cobb, a rollover crash that left two people injured has shut down the eastbound lanes of the East-West Connector at Hicks Road, authorities said. Only one westbound lane is open through the area.
Drivers should take Floyd Road to Fontaine Road as an alternate, according to the Traffic Center.
