Temperatures should be the lowest in North Georgia on Tuesday that they will be all week, according to Channel 2 Action News.

It’s both good news for the rest of the week and a bitter pill to swallow Tuesday morning, when freezing temperatures in the 20s and 30s are the present reality. Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said the wind is making it feel more like the teens and 20s outside.

Temperatures are expected to rise from 31 degrees Tuesday morning to 48 degrees in the afternoon under lots of sunshine, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Still, he said things are looking up. There is no threat of any rain Tuesday or the rest of the work week, according to Channel 2.

“Once we get past the cold start, we will have the benefit of sunshine all the way through the afternoon,” Monahan said.

An estimated 10 hours of sunshine Tuesday will help Atlanta warm to a projected high of 48 degrees, according to Channel 2. Monahan said it should be the last day for highs in the 40s before warmer weather moves in.

“Cold stuff here today, here tomorrow morning, and then it starts to ease off,” he said. “Temperatures are going to start to warm up as we go into Wednesday afternoon. We’ll have 50s by Thursday, and Friday we’re climbing up into the low to mid-60s.”

North Georgia has just one more freezing start in the forecast before then. Atlanta is expected to dip down to 32 degrees Wednesday, which is only one degree above Tuesday’s recorded low temperature, according to Channel 2.

With dry pavement, there are no major delays on Atlanta interstates as of 9:30 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Traffic reporter Mark Arum said trip times are typical all across the city, and the Downtown Connector is moving smoothly at speeds of 44 mph. That is likely to change on the ride home from work, when Arum expects speeds will fall to 20 mph with typical afternoon delays.
