Following a relatively dry long weekend, metro Atlantans should expect hot and humid conditions on Tuesday with a chance of scattered showers, according to the latest forecast.

Labor day was warm but wet in North Georgia, and the first day back to work following the holiday is expected to continue that trend, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

The morning is off to a warm start, with temperatures in the low 70s, he said.

By noon, those temperatures will climb up to the low 80s, and by 4 p.m., they’ll reach the day’s high of 86 degrees. It’ll also feel muggy, with humidity sitting at a sticky 96%.

A cold front that moved through North Georgia on Monday is bringing an increased possibility of rain showers, Monahan said. The best chance of precipitation in Atlanta will be about 1 p.m.

While the chance of rain is 40%, Tuesday won’t be a total washout, Monahan said.

“Eight of our 13 daylight hours should be on the dry side,” he said.

A second cold front will move in on Wednesday evening, pushing the chance of rain that day up to 60%, Monahan said.

“You’ll still be able to get some outdoor plans in, but storms will be a little more likely on Wednesday,” he said.

However, sunnier conditions and drier air are on the way for Thursday, Monahan said. That same cold front will cut the humidity by Thursday afternoon.

By the weekend, we’ll see sunshine and clear skies.
