North Georgia should be done with the widespread rain Tuesday after the remnants of Tropical Storm Danny moved through the region overnight.

What is left of the tropical system will continue to move westward, leaving behind lots of clouds and humidity, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon. There is still a possibility of a scattered shower or storm as temperatures rise Tuesday afternoon, and some of the rainfall could be heavy, she said.

Atlanta’s projected high is 84 degrees.

“By this evening, things will start to quiet down,” Deon said. “We are going to see those rain chances dropping off significantly for your late evening plans.”

That is good news for those headed downtown to watch the Hawks take on the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. Traffic is expected to pick up around State Farm Arena leading up to tip-off at 8:30 p.m.

Deon said rain is mostly spotty and concentrated along I-20 Tuesday morning for the drive into work and school. The heavier stuff has already pushed into Alabama after dousing Southside neighborhoods before daybreak.

Not all of North Georgia will see rain Tuesday, but all will experience heavy cloud cover, Deon said.

“Around 2 p.m. we’ll start to get some clearing in spots,” she said. “Still expecting to see some clouds around throughout the day, but we’re definitely not expecting to see some of the widespread rain we had around earlier this morning.”

Rain is 60% likely Tuesday but just 30% likely Wednesday and Thursday. Deon said the region will return to a pattern of spotty afternoon showers and storms as humidity remains high and temperatures rise into the upper 80s each day.

“Later this week we have a frontal boundary that is going to be moving in, bringing us some more widespread rainfall as we get into the day on Friday,” Deon said. “Once that front pushes to our south, we are going to get some drier air moving in here and hopefully by July Fourth we are going to see some better weather conditions.”

Deon said there is a chance of rain every day leading up to the holiday, but she expects the region will be cooler and drier for celebrations Sunday.
