A woman was hit by a vehicle and killed Tuesday morning as she crossed a major road in south Fulton County, authorities said.

The woman was struck as she crossed Fulton Industrial Boulevard and Wendell Drive, Fulton County Police Department spokesman Lt. Scott McBride told AJC.com.

While authorities have not officially released the victim’s name, a man on the scene identified the woman as his fiancee.

Walter Matthews said he and Rebecca Woodson had been together for more than a year and were due to get married in December.

“I lost the love of my life,” he told AJC.com.

Matthews said Woodson was on her way to meet him when a van hit her.

“She was a sweet person,” he said. “A kind, gentle person.”

No charges have been filed in connection with the accident, but an investigation is ongoing, McBride said.

The crash blocked all northbound lanes of Fulton Industrial Boulevard north of I-20 for nearly two hours before authorities reopened the road just before 8:40 a.m. At one point, the investigation impacted the east and west exit ramps off of I-20.
