A few high clouds in the sky Thursday will not do much to obstruct the near total sunshine in the forecast, according to Channel 2 Action News.

North Georgia should get started on the sunshine early with clear conditions to start the day. Although the region is cool with morning lows in the 40s and low 50s, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said it will warm up quickly.

Atlanta’s projected high is 72 degrees with no chance of rain in the forecast.

“Go out and enjoy it,” Monahan said. “I know it’s been a tough start to the week with the rain and storms we saw back on Monday and Tuesday.”

Late Thursday night, Monahan said a weak cold front could trigger spotty showers in northwest Georgia. The rain is not likely to have much impact, he said.

“It should break up by the time it hits metro Atlanta,” he said. “By the time you wake up Friday morning, we’re starting to clear out.”

Friday will see another cool start with morning lows in the 50s, and temperatures are only expected to reach the upper 60s Friday afternoon, according to Channel 2. Atlanta should be back in the mid-70s Saturday, which is still below average for this time of year.

Temperatures in the low 80s for Mother’s Day on Sunday are more typical of early May.

Most metro Atlanta interstates are moving fine to start the Thursday morning commute, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The slowest ride in town is I-75 South getting into Marietta, the Traffic Center reported. A crash with reported injuries was blocking multiple lanes south of Ga. 5.

The Traffic Center suggests Cobb County commuters use the express lanes or U.S. 41.
