A little break in the humidity Thursday morning has allowed temperatures to fall into the 60s across metro Atlanta.
A cold front stalled to the south is keeping all the rain, clouds and tropical air at bay, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. A 20% of a shower Thursday afternoon won’t amount to much, he said.
“A little more comfortable, the humidity is a little bit lower, and it’s going to be a little bit drier this afternoon,” Monahan said. “I don’t expect much in the way of rain.”
Without the rain and cloud cover, temperatures are headed for the upper 80s. Atlanta’s projected high is 87 degrees under a mix of clouds and sun, according to Channel 2.

Monahan said the city has a few more comfortable mornings in its forecast this week as lows hover around 70 degrees. Afternoon highs will remain in the 80s, but clouds will thicken up and rain chances are increasing for the weekend, he said.
“More storms are moving in this weekend,” he said. “Saturday will be the wetter of our two weekend days.”

With the Thursday morning drive underway, there are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates, but an overnight fire could cause trouble for commuters in Morningside, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Cheshire Bridge Road is closed indefinitely south of Lavista Road after a fire fueled by a gas leak compromised a bridge. Authorities have not said when the road will reopen.
Drivers can take Piedmont Road, Clairmont Road or Buford Highway as alternates, the Traffic Center reported.
