Another day of sunshine and highs in the low 80s is in the forecast Thursday, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Temperatures are starting the day mild in the 60s. Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said North Georgia has lower humidity levels to thank for the comfortable start.
“This time of year, even though you can get hot, you don’t get especially humid,” he said. “Generally, we’re in that comfortable range of humidity over the weekend, and then starting to climb a little bit early next week.”
Lower humidity does not mean North Georgia won’t feel the heat. Thursday should be the last day for average temperatures before heat builds for a projected high of 85 degrees Friday and the year’s first 90-degree high over the weekend, Monahan said.
By next week, as humidity levels climb, he said North Georgia is looking at record-high heat.
“We start today inching toward that warmer weather,” Monahan said. “We’re going to be in the low 80s this afternoon across metro Atlanta. Mostly sunny sky in our forecast today.”
Atlanta’s projected high is 82 degrees Thursday. There is no rain in the forecast all the way through the weekend, according to Channel 2.
