—Paul Smillie, Grayson

A: Adam Klotz, a meteorologist who joined Fox 5 this past summer, told Q&A on the News that he is a distant relative to Red Klotz, a former NBA player who organized the teams that played against the Harlem Globetrotters. As coach of the Washington Generals and other teams that toured with the Globetrotters, Red Klotz lost nearly 14,000 games, the New York Times reported in his obituary on July 14.

Adam Klotz wrote that “a large group of Klotzes moved from Germany to Philadelphia” in the early 1900s. “My great-great grandfather moved to Indiana. His brother stayed in Philly, where Red was born,” he wrote. “While growing up, I heard stories of my relation as the most losing player/coach in basketball history. … Growing up in Indiana, I lived to play basketball. I thought maybe I could one day grow up and change the basketball fortunes for the Klotz name.”
