The girl was hit by a Chevrolet HHR compact SUV just before 8 a.m. in Deerfield Beach, according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane.

The girl was freed by bystanders after 4-5 minutes," Kane told the Sun-Sentinel via email. She was taken to a nearby baseball field and airlifted to a pediatric trauma center, the newspaper reported.

Kane said the girl's injuries were not life-threatening. She suffered cuts to her face, second-degree burns and road rashes, Kane told the Sun-Sentinel.

The SUV driver remained at the scene, Kane said. The Broward County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
