The sun may only make occasional appearances Sunday, but it should be mostly dry and cool with temperatures in the high 50s.

Cold overnight temperatures should yield to a slightly warmer afternoon with sun in the morning and a predicted high in Atlanta of 57 degrees. Clouds are expected to gather throughout the day, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

“We can’t rule out a passing shower after about six o’clock,” Deon said.

Expect cold temperatures overnight Sunday and a possible light wintry mix of snow and rain on Monday morning in northeast Georgia.

“As we get into the overnight hours, colder air arrives, and with that colder air we could see a bit of rain and snow mix in the North Georgia mountains,” Deon said. “I definitely don’t expect it to be too much of an issue, and definitely not a widespread event.”

Weather permitting, the Georgia Department of Transportation has several projects planned this weekend that could cause delays on metro Atlanta’s interstates. However, most of the work should be complete by the end of the day Saturday.

In one of the only projects expected to work the second half of the weekend, construction activities will moderately impact traffic on I-20 West near the Downtown Connector from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, GDOT added.
