President Trump wants to rename the Gulf of Mexico. Is that possible?

In his inaugural address, President Donald Trump suggested that the Gulf of Mexico should be renamed the “Gulf of America.” The Gulf of Mexico spans the eastern coast of Mexico and borders five southeastern U.S. states. In order for President Trump to make this happen, Congress would have to pass a law. Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-Rome) introduced legislation to change the name of the body of water. Although the U.S. could change the name of the gulf, other countries may or may not recognize the name change.
