North Georgia will not only return to average temperatures this week, it will exceed them, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Gone are the frosty mornings and gusty wind from the past week. Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said Atlanta will reach a high of 75 degrees Monday, which is five degrees above average for this time of year.

Sunshine, dry conditions and warm weather should continue for much of the week, he said.

“At least through Wednesday things are going to stay nice and quiet across North Georgia,” Monahan said.

The next chance of rain arrives Thursday. Monahan said it is possible a strong storm will mix in with the 80% chance of showers and storms. Once it arrives, rain remains in the forecast through early next week, according to Channel 2.

A half-inch to an inch of rain is possible before the week is over, Monahan said. Until then, he said the region will enjoy weather that feels more like late April or early May.

“A jet stream to our north, and that’s bringing in all that warm air from the the south,” he said. “That means temperatures above average through today, through Tuesday, five to 10 degrees above average. By Wednesday, we’ll have some spots up near 80 degrees.”

Traffic is expected to be lighter than normal this week with thousands of metro Atlanta students and their families on spring break. There are no major delays as the Monday morning drive gets underway, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

“No construction crews out on the interstates right now and dry pavement, very thankful for that,” traffic reporter Ashley Frasca said at 6 a.m.
