Jonesboro High School’s newly renovated gymnasium will be used for the first time Jan. 7.

The district on Thursday invited residents to come see the school’s girls and boys basketball teams play Whitewater High School from Fayette County in the facility at 6 p.m.

An abbreviated ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held prior to the game at 4:45 p.m. in the lobby of the gym prior to doors opening, the district said. General admission to the game is $6 and doors will open at 5 p.m.

“We invite everyone to come and join the school district and Jonesboro High as a new chapter in JHS athletics begins,” Clayton Schools Superintendent Morcease Beasley said in a release.

The gym is part of a $45.8 million renovation and new construction project at the school’s campus. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2020.
