A former Harrison High School football player was killed Saturday in an Alabama state park, officials say.

Mason Tompkins, 18, of Acworth, died after jumping from a rock into a creek at High Falls, DeKalb County, Alabama, Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Michael Edmondson told WHNT.

The teenager wore No. 75 jersey on the varsity team.

He graduated Harrison High School in 2017 and was expected to study political science and play football at Berry College.

Berry College welcomed Tompkins on its incoming football roster:

“Tompkins joins the Vikings after a strong career at Harrison High School. He helped anchor the offensive line that advanced to the second round of the state playoffs and was selected as the Player of the Week for his efforts during the season.”

An official cause of death is under investigation.
