Reinhardt University has scheduled a Wednesday vigil for Quentin Moses, its assistant football coach who died in a fire Sunday in Walton County.
Moses, a former University of Georgia football star who played in the NFL before becoming an assistant coach at Reinhardt, was one of three people killed by the early morning blaze.
Moses, his 31-year-old friend Andria Godard and her 10-year-old daughter Jasmine died in the fire in Monroe.
The 33-year-old was a defensive standout at Georgia and played four seasons with the Miami Dolphins (2007-10) as a linebacker.
Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen and have not ruled out a cooking incident, appliance or electrical problem, Monroe fire Chief Keith Glass said.
The public is invited to attend a "Celebration of Life" service on Reinhardt’s Waleska campus in Cherokee County at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Classes will be canceled from 1 to 2 p.m. so students can attend.
Reinhardt head football coach James Miller said Moses meant a lot to the kids and staff.
“But we will remember Coach Moses for all the positive that he did,” Miller said. “We’ll remember his infectious smile and his consistent belief in second chances.”
Reinhardt's leadership team is also establishing a scholarship fund in Moses' name to benefit student-athletes at the school. Contributions can be made through the Office of Advancement.
