A Cobb County grand jury has indicted a man involved in a crash that killed two fathers in Austell.

George Kevin Cambi, 19, was indicted Friday by a jury on two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree and cruelty to children in the second degree, Cobb County Superior Court records show.

Cambi was charged by Cobb police following an April 7 crash that killed James Wheeler, 31, of Acworth, and Douglas Duff Jr., 35, of Mableton.

Officers were dispatched to the collision on Floyd Road at Bates Road in Austell. Police say a black 2010 Toyota Yaris was turning left on Floyd Road from Bates Drive when it was struck by a red 2006 Infiniti G35.

Wheeler, the driver of the Toyota, and Duff, who was the passenger, were both killed in the collision. Cambi, the driver of the Infiniti, was allegedly racing another vehicle with his 1-year-old child improperly restrained in the car at the time of the crash, according to information revealed in a May 7 bond hearing held.

According to an arrest warrant, Cambi was “racing, driving at speeds well in excess of the posted speed limit, and unlawfully passing other vehicles” when he negotiated a right curve with limited visibility and collided with the Toyota. Cambi and his child also suffered injuries in the crash.

Cobb police originally charged the Austell resident with two counts of first degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, racing and cruelty to children in the second degree. He remains at the Cobb County jail without bond.

Suzanne Wheeler told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that her son, James, is survived by his girlfriend and his son. Brittani Marotti, Duff's sister, said her brother had three children, including an 8-month-old girl, Channel 2 Action News reported in May.

Cobb police have yet to find the driver of a silver 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer they believe Cambi was racing moments before the fatal collision.
