Three metro schools gain national academic honor

Sept 29, 2015

Three metro Atlanta schools were recognized Tuesday by federal education officials for their overall academic excellence.

Clairemont Elementary School in Decatur, Johns Creek Elementary School in Forsyth County and KIPP STRIVE Academy in Atlanta were three of nine Georgia schools named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2015, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced Tuesday.

All three schools have high scores on the state’s College and Career-Ready Performance Index, which measures how well students do in the classroom.

The department will honor 285 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 9-10 in Washington, D.C.
