Answer these five questions to determine if a technology career is path that you should be considering.

1. When your computer freezes, who fixes it?

A. I do.

B. Anyone other than me.

2. If you are thinking about buying a new electronic device, how do you research it?

A. I read the device’s specs because I like to interpret them on my own.

B. I read the reviews, I’d rather hear what others have to say.

3. When a website has a glitch, what is your reaction?

A. I think of ways it can be fixed or improved, because I hate malfunctions.

B. It bothers me, but I move on without giving it too much thought.

4. A new gadget is coming out—what’s your reaction?

A. I’ve been on the waiting list for weeks, because I have to own it.

B. I like what I have currently, and I don’t see the need in trying something new.

5. How do you respond when given a creative and open task?

A. I love an opportunity to showcase my creative side, so I can’t wait to jump right in.

B. Lack of direction can be pretty stressful, so I’d rather do something that has more defined guidelines.

If you answered A to most of these questions, consider pursuing education and training to work in the high-tech industry, which is a high-growth field. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that jobs such as web developers are expected to increase by 20 percent by 2022.

These careers require someone with a desire to stay on the cutting edge of technology and a solution-oriented mindset.
