Sugar Hill city officials said Friday they would be willing to keep a special-needs school open to allow the children attending the school to complete their studies.

The county school system has been in discussions with the north Gwinnett city about closing the Buice School at the end of this school year and selling it to the city for $2.5 million.

Buice serves preschool and pre-kindergarten children. Gwinnett wants to move the students to other schools in the district that can also serve special-needs students.

A group of Buice parents has pleaded for the school to remain open. Gwinnett County school board members delayed a vote Thursday evening to close the school and approve the sale, in response to parent concerns that there’s been little information shared with them about the plans.

Sugar Hill council members said at a council meeting Friday morning they could lease the school to Gwinnett to allow students currently enrolled there to finish their coursework.
