Metro Atlanta schools today are letting teachers and principals decide whether to show Donald Trump's inauguration. Gwinnett and Fulton school districts have alternate instruction prepared for students whose parents opt their children out of watching. DeKalb County Schools issued instructions for how best to facilitate student discussion and connect the ceremony to curriculum if teachers decide to show it.
Some parents want their kids to watch the ceremony at school because it is an historic event, offers learning opportunities and is democracy in action. Others believe schools should not show political events, this election is too divisive to show students or class time would be better used for instruction.
