Republican Susan Thayer has beaten Democrat Kenya Pierre to take the Post 2 seat on the Cobb County school board.

Results from Tuesday's election show Thayer received 52 percent over Pierre's 48 percent for the seat, which represents southeast Cobb.

Although she’s never been on the school board, Thayer has over 30 years of educational experience, having worked as a teacher in Clayton County, a principal at Pebblebrook High School and in the central office in Cobb County.

She also served as assistant superintendent of curriculum for Douglas County schools. She was a counselor at Osborne High School, in Post 2, for eight years.

In vying for the seat, Thayer beat current Post 2 board member Tim Stultz in the July runoff. Thayer’s term on the 7-member school board begins in January.
