Fulton County parents will soon be able to track their children’s school bus.

A cellphone app that uses GPS technology will be available for parents to download for free beginning Monday.

The app, called Here Comes the Bus, works on cellphones and other devices and runs similarly to Uber or Lyft, allowing users to check a map to find out where a school bus is traveling and follow its progress. The app also shows how many minutes away the bus is.

“Our transportation fleet is committed to the safety and on-time delivery of students to their schools and homes,” said Sam Ham, executive director of Fulton County Schools’ transportation department, in a written statement.

Ham said that the bus app allows the district to “be more customer-focused so our families know when the bus is on its way.”

To sign up for the service, parents need their child's student ID number. They can download the program through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. More information also can be found on the district's website.
