A group of Gwinnett County Public Schools students won awards at the Future Problem Solving International Conference, which features four days of competitive problem solving, cooperative educational seminars and social activities at Indiana University.
Jennifer Wang, a recent Pinckneyville Middle School graduate, came in first place for scenario writing, middle division.
Allison Fisher, who graduated from Norcross High School, won second place in multi-affiliate global issues problem solving, senior division, with her three assigned teammates.
Michelle Fisher, a rising junior at Norcross High, landed a third-place award for individual global issues problem solving, senior division.
Sam Carton, a rising seventh grader at Pinckneyville Middle, placed fifth in individual global issues problem solving, junior division.
A total of 14 Gwinnett students attended the conference from June 6 to June 9.

Emma Steigerwald, a graduate of Campbell High School in Cobb County, plans to spend the next 13 months interning in 12 countries as part of a fellowship exploring biodiversity conservation.
Steigerwald received a Keegan Travelling Fellowship after completing college at Vanderbilt University in December.
She will spend her time with projects such as creating promotional videos for birding reserves in South America, working on a documentary about biological and cultural diversity in Bolivia, monitoring habitat restoration for native species in New Zealand and helping snow leopards in Nepal.

Twenty-three recent Fulton County Schools graduates have been named National Merit Scholars and have earned scholarships from participating colleges.
This round of scholarship recipients brings Fulton’s total to 69 National Merit Scholars in the 2013 competition.
They were identified through high PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Tests, had a record of academic performance, were recommended by their principals and earned high SAT scores.
