Gwinnett County Public Schools earned one of the best scores in Georgia under a new “financial efficiency” measure unveiled Thursday by state education officials.

The school district earned a score of 4.5 in the rating system, with 1 being the worst and 5 the best. It was the highest score among core metro Atlanta districts and one of the highest in the state, bested only by Forsyth County, the only district to earn a 5.

Buford City Schools, an independent system in Gwinnett, earned a score of 2.5. The district attributed its low rating to several causes, including a high percentage of teachers who have risen on the pay scale and below market charges for employee daycare.
