Gwinnett County school officials said Wednesday afternoon they are attempting earlier dismissals for elementary and middle school students in lieu of a tornado warning there.
The school district wrote, in part, on its Facebook page:
“As buses arrived at high schools, we were able to dismiss a few minutes early in an attempt to allow for earlier dismissals to elementary and middle school bus riders. Please note that if the weather becomes a concern, schools may hold students until they feel it is safe to dismiss.”
The Facebook message added some schools have cancelled afterschool activities.
White Oak Elementary School and Lanier Middle School are asking parents not to come to the school, district officials said. They are holding students at the school until the weather clears.
Dismissal time for the school district’s high schools began shortly after 1 p.m., but Norcross High School is holding students, Gwinnett said on its Twitter page.
