Bloom where you are planted, Douglasville Mayor Rochelle Robinson, the first woman and the first African American person to lead the city, told students at Atlanta’s Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy Thursday.
Robinson, who was elected mayor last year, spoke at a Women's History Month celebration.
“You’re responsible in this world for your community,” Robinson told students. “Be a sister, leave a legacy, give back to each other.”
Coretta Scott King, an all-girls school, is one of Atlanta Public Schools’ two single-gender schools. BEST Academy enrolls boys.
Coretta Scott King had one of the highest graduation rates — 94 percent— among Atlanta high schools last year, an accomplishment district leaders said was due to the school's "unique culture."
