Georgia’s Teacher of the Year is flying to new heights.

Tracey Pendley, a fourth grade teacher at Burgess-Peterson Academy who is the state's teacher of the year, will get to ride Friday with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.

Pendley will hitch a ride on an F-16 fighter jet, according to Atlanta Public Schools, and will be honored by the Thunderbirds as a “hometown hero.”

The event will take place at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta.

The Thunderbirds also are scheduled to appear Saturday and Sunday during the 2019 Atlanta Air Show. The Thunderbirds are headlining the air show, which takes place at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
